What is Fraxel?
Fraxel is a new and technologically advanced laser resurfacing treatment that helps remove the facial signs of aging resulting in a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance to the face and neck.
Why do people choose laser resurfacing with Fraxel?
Through your reading and treatment of your face over the years, you have no doubt heard of the role of collagen and elastin in keeping the skin tight and more youthful in appearance. As we age naturally, these protein breakdown and can naturally rebuild. However, increased age, smoking, and also excessive sun exposure causes these proteins to breakdown at a rate faster than the body can replenish them. As these proteins breakdown in the face the skin undergoes wrinkling and sagging producing lines and an aged appearance to the face and neck. While aging is inevitable, many of us want to retain the youthful appearance of our face to look and feel younger. Fraxel is a new treatment that can help erase the signs of aging by helping us to rebuild the collagen and elastin in the face and thus make us look younger.
How is laser resurfacing performed?
Fraxel uses microscopic laser columns to create microscopic wounds deep in the dermis layer of the skin. These treatment zones trigger your body to naturally heal these wounds with collagen and elastin. New skin is created with Fraxel from the inside out.
A topical anesthetic is applied to the skin and the laser treatment can begin after the anesthetic begins to work. It can take just about 25 minutes for a treatment for the entire face depending on the number of treatment zones and depth.
There are really three options for Fraxel treatments called repair, restore and refine. Fraxel repair is the more aggressive treatment often suggested for severely damaged skin. A Fraxel repair is done in one treatment session but will require more recovery and care time. Fraxel restore and Fraxel refine are options for mild to moderately damaged skin. Fraxel restore and Fraxel refine can also produce significant results in three to six sessions with minimal recovery time.
What can I expect from laser resurfacing?
