Breast augmentation with fat grafting

Breast augmentation with fat grafting, also called fat transfer, is a surgery that involves using a patient’s own fat from other places in the body to enhance the breast for a fuller and more youthful breast volume.

Why do people choose a breast augmentation with fat grafting?

For some, breast augmentation fulfills a desire to have fuller breast. Others may choose breast augmentation to restore breast volume after pregnancy or after reconstructive surgery following breast cancer. Pregnancy, nursing, aging or even weight loss can deflate breast or leave breast sagging. The uniqueness of breast augmentation with fat grafting is that the patient has an alternative to foreign breast implants. Instead of implants, breasts are enhanced using a patient’s own fat from other places in the body. Haven’t we all wished that we could move fat from one place to another?

It is important to note that a breast augmentation will not bring breast closer together or lift them up. Breast augmentation may be performed alone or in conjunction with a breast lift. Also, unlike breast augmentation with breast implants, breast augmentation with fat grafting limits the amount of enhancement. Women can easily enjoy breasts up to a full bra cup size larger, but more drastic changes would require implants.

How is a breast augmentation with fat grafting performed?

The first step is to remove the fat though liposuction on the desired location of the body. The harvested fact is then cleansed and separated from other tissues collecting only the best fat cells available. This fat is then injected into the breast in multiple small injections that allow for precise reshaping and permanent enhancement of the breasts. Generally, one to three treatments are required to achieve the maximum effect as some fat may not survive the transfer. Women may experience dimpling when this happens and further injections can target those localized spots.

What can you expect from a breast augmentation?

A woman can enjoy fuller breast that are completely her own tissues. The results are visible soon after surgery, however additional treatments may be required to correct for reabsorption of fat. Many people will enjoy improved self-image and more self-confidence once they have the natural looking size and shape breasts that they desire.
