Male Breast Reduction
Breast reduction for men, also called reduction mammaplasty, is a surgery to remove over-developed or enlarged breast in men, also known as gynecomastia.
Why do men choose breast reduction?
Over developed or enlarged breast in men is not uncommon. This condition can be the result of heredity, disease, the use of certain drugs or even hormonal changes. In some cases, gynecomastia is the result of localized fat or excess glandular tissue or both. The enlargement may be in one breast or both. Gynecomastia can cause men severe emotional distress especially in young men or teenagers. It can lower your self-confidence and even cause men to avoid physical activities or intimacy in order to hide their condition. When the gynecomastia is caused by localized fat or glandular tissue excess this condition is completely correctible. Many men choose a breast reduction to improve their appearance and raise their self-confidence.
How is a breast reduction for men performed?
If the enlargement of the breast is primarily a result of excess fatty tissue, liposuction may be performed during the breast reduction. Excision or removal techniques will also be used where recommended to remove excess breast tissue or skin. In some cases, it is necessary to reposition the nipple for a more natural male contour. Any surgical procedure to correct gynecomastia will require incisions. Often, though not always, scars can be concealed within the natural contours of the breast.
What can I expect from a breast reduction for men?
A breast reduction surgery for men will offer you a more symmetrical, proportional breast area that appears natural and reflective of your healthy lifestyle. In many cases the final results of a breast reduction in men is permanent although the use of certain prescription drugs, steroids or even weight gain will effect the longevity of your corrective surgery. Many men will enjoy a better self-image and more self-confidence along with the new look of their body whether in a shirt and tie or baring their chest at the beach.
